What is a IRC Script?
An IRC script is a collection of commands written for a particular "chat client" such as mIRC. While there are other chat clients out there, the majority of users choose to use mIRC to chat with and as such there are literally hundreds of scripts and add-ons for this popular chat client.
There is a popular misconception that a chat script is a full blown program written by the particular script's author. This is totally untrue. None of these scripts would function without the base chat client they are written for (such as mIRC). Many scripts come with mIRC included and install the total package, while others require you to have mIRC installed first and then their script loaded inside mIRC.
Of course you could choose to use mIRC on its own without any scripts installed, it will function quite well on its own without anything else installed and this is a great way to get to know IRC and mIRC first before you try your hand at using a script.
